Why Is the Job on the Rise?
The increase in social media marketing has led to a growth in the beauty industry. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), nail tech jobs are projected to grow 9% through 2032. Jobs like manicurists and pedicurists are seeing a consistent flow of clients hoping to enhance their look with the hottest trends.
These jobs allow you to explore your creativity and work with the latest products to create beautiful-looking nails your clients will love. Not only will you get a sense of pride looking at your work, but helping a customer feel confident and excited about their nails is one of the most rewarding aspects of the job. The career also provides a nice work-life balance and generally involves a low-stress work environment.
Another great aspect of the job is flexibility when it comes to your work environment. You can get a job working at a salon and spa, nail bar, vacation resort, or on a cruise ship. If you’ve built up a large list of clients, you can run your own business and offer your services on-site.
Lastly, life as a nail tech comes with the bonus that you’ll often get to know your customers. Many clients enjoy chatting with technicians, so you get a chance to know people.
How To Become a Nail Tech
There are a few steps you’ll need to take to become a nail tech. First, you need to graduate from high school or earn a GED. Then you’ll need to enroll in a program. You’ll learn about hygiene, anatomy, chemistry, and customer relations. Program lengths vary depending on the state’s license requirements. At our Kansas campus, the nail tech program involves day classes and runs for 10 weeks. At our California campuses, we offer the spa nails program, which takes approximately 5 to 6 months to complete. Students can take day or night classes with these programs in CA, depending on what works best for their schedules.
After completing the program, you must complete your exam, which contains both written and practical sections to indicate all you’ve learned. Once you’ve passed the exam and earned your license, you’ll need to keep up with continuing education courses and hone your skills over the years.
