Cosmetology Foundation 1,000 Hours

A career in cosmetology starts with our 1,000-hour Cosmetology Foundation program. Here, students learn traditional and modern techniques that empower them to turn their love for beauty into a lifelong career. Courses cover a blend of beauty and business topics, including the following essential skills:

Students refine their technical and communication skills in our supervised Student Salon and Spa. In this fast-paced environment, students work one-on-one with a diverse clientele while under the supervision of experienced instructors.

The Cosmetics Foundation program is designed to prepare students for the state cosmetology licensing exam. Passing this exam and earning a license are required to work as a cosmetologist in CA.

Advanced Cosmetology 1,500 Hours

Students seeking a more in-depth education may take our 1,500-hour program. This program adds 500 hours of training to cover core and advanced techniques. The Advanced Cosmetology curriculum was designed by the collaboration of Bellus Academy educators and an advisory board of high-end and top salons salon and spa owners. This curriculum was created to teach our students the skills needed to perform the same high-end services that top salons and spas provide to their clients. The Advanced Cosmetology program is designed to give students entry-level employment opportunities within these elite salons and spas.

As with the Foundation program, students will spend time in our supervised Student Salon and Spa to develop hands-on experience. Bellus Academy emphasizes the balance of theoretical and practical training, which is essential to achieving early success in the beauty industry.

The Advanced Cosmetology program offers additional certifications, exclusive training, and additional kit items and tools. Students in the Advanced Program will train and graduate certified in Hair Extensions (3 methods: Tape-in, Weft, and K-tips) and Eyelash Extensions (Classic and volume). Additionally, students will learn exclusive specialized cutting and color training, focusing on more technical and creative approaches to different advanced techniques.

Our Hybrid Learning Model

Bellus Academy understands that career training can be challenging to fit into a busy working schedule. To accommodate your hectic lifestyle, our cosmetology program follows a hybrid format. Students at Bellus Academy receive an iPad to access their digital learning platform. This enables some theory portions of the program to be completed remotely.

Practical training occurs in person at our Student Salon and Spa in El Cajon. In the student salon, students enhance their skills by providing beauty services to real clientele under the supervision of experienced and licensed Bellus Academy instructors. While practicing techniques, they’ll also develop the customer communication skills necessary to provide exceptional service in their future workplaces.
