Cosmetology Career Options
When our students graduate as licensed cosmetologists, the world truly does become their oyster. But with so many cosmetology career options available, it can be tricky to narrow them down to just one. No matter what they choose, they can rest assured that their passion and artistry will be fueled each and every day. To help budding cosmetologists zero in on their dream careers, Bellus Academy outlines some of the most popular vocational paths that they can take.
Hairdressing and Styling
Thanks to the broad range of skills our cosmetology students gain, they can leave our program fully equipped for a career in hairdressing or styling. As a hairdresser, they could provide services at a salon or as a freelancer, with typical duties including hair treatments, coloring, cutting, and much more. If they opt for freelancing, they can rely on the professional development training they received as a part of Bellus Academy’s cosmetology programs.
As a hairstylist, our cosmetology graduates would be charged with designing and arranging their clients’ hairstyles. Depending on where they work, their creations could range from natural wedding looks to striking editorial styles. Here, as in many careers in cosmetology, they’ll have a chance to get creative and be social while determining exactly what their clients are looking for.
Esthetics
For those more interested in the basics of beauty, cosmetologists can choose to work as a skin care specialist often referred to as an esthetician. In this position, they would evaluate their clients’ skin and develop personalized treatments or even provide medical referrals to make it the healthiest and most beautiful that it can be. Some of the services they might provide rejuvenate and care for the skin include:
- Facials
- Chemical peels
- Full-body treatments
- Waxing
- Tweezing
- Skincare product recommendations
- Head and neck massage
Make-Up Artistry
As licensed cosmetologists, Bellus Academy graduates can also pursue the captivating track of make-up artistry. Upon completing our Cosmetology 102 program, which is offered at each of our four locations across California and Kansas, they will have developed the skills to excel in a variety of make-up settings, including:
- Bridal

- Select editorial environments
What’s more, this course follows a Make-up Designory (MUD) curriculum, which provides each student with a professional makeup kit. This gives their exciting careers a valuable jumpstart.
Nail Artistry
Another popular career option for many cosmetologists is the nail artistry track. As a nail technician, they’d provide manicures, pedicures, and nail treatments. They’d even be able to flex their creativity and customer service skills when designing their clients’ nail colors, patterns, and shapes. Aside from these duties, nail technicians also deliver hand and foot massages to help their clients feel pampered and relaxed.
