Bellus Academy: A Beauty School That Gives Back to Our Communities

Cancer is a devastating illness and unfortunately far too common. National Library of Medicine cancer statistics report one in five men and one in six women will be diagnosed with cancer during their lifetime. The effects of the disease can have a tremendous impact on a patient’s well-being.

While much attention is placed on the physical effects of cancer and its treatments, many patients experience low self-esteem and high emotional distress due to changes in their appearance. Bellus Academy aims to help by offering select salon services to pamper individuals affected by cancer. 

The first Tuesday in June is known as Cancer Survivor Beauty and Support Day. This volunteer event unites beauty and wellness professionals to offer complimentary services to support patients with cancer and survivors.

Bellus Academy is proud to celebrate and participate in this initiative by offering complimentary services to patients and survivors in June at our supervised student salon and spa in Poway, Chula Vista, and El Cajon, CA, plus Manhattan, KS. We believe anyone being treated for, living with, or recovering from cancer should receive the beauty and wellness support they need.

Our Complimentary Offerings for Patients With Cancer

Bellus Academy extends its support of Cancer Survivor Beauty and Support Day throughout June, to help as many people as possible. Patients with cancer and survivors may choose between the following options:

• Oncology facial: A gentle facial treatment designed to help soothe and repair skin damaged by cancer treatments.
• 15-minute hand treatment: A customized treatment that uses gentle touch and slow movements to relax the client and reduce cancer treatment side effects on the skin and hands.
• 15-minute scalp massage: This service can help with relaxation, fatigue, and overall well-being. Some studies suggest scalp massages may improve hair regrowth in patients with chemotherapy-induced alopecia.

Every complimentary service offered at Bellus Academy’s student salon and spa is supervised by a licensed instructor. Complimentary services are available by appointment.

Additional Compassionate Care Services at Bellus Academy

Compassionate care services are modified salon and spa offerings to accommodate clients during and following their healing journey. Bellus Academy offers a variety of services from our compassionate care spa menu. These offerings entail specific techniques and products formulated with safe skincare ingredients. The purpose of these specialized services and products is to provide comfort for the skin that may be particularly sensitive due to health conditions or treatments.

Our compassionate care services are offered in a safe and meaningful way and in a welcoming environment. These services can be tailored to meet the specific needs of the client to ensure the ultimate relaxation and wellness experience.

Giving Back at Bellus Academy

Cancer Survivor Beauty and Support Day is just one cause Bellus Academy is proud to support. Our beauty and wellness institution continuously looks for ways to give back to the community. We regularly participate in unique events and outreach projects to provide our students with hands-on experience and offer support to those who need it.

Our past volunteer work includes helping the homeless and military personnel, plus supporting organizations like Fashion Week San Diego and Habitat for Humanity. In addition, we provide training for the Cut It Out program. This project spreads awareness of domestic abuse and equips salon professionals with the skills to recognize the signs that someone may be in trouble and what to do if they suspect a client is being victimized.
